Kinship Testing

For situations in which an alleged father is deceased or unavailable for paternity testing, Worldwide Genetics offers several kinship testing options that will determine if a child is related to the alleged father’s close relatives, such as his parents or siblings. Kinship tests are also available for confirming other biological relationships, such as identical/fraternal twin zygosity and maternity.

The different family relationship tests we offer are described below. If you are unsure about which test is applicable to your situation, please do not hesitate to contact us via our online form or call 1-800-DNA-8360. We will evaluate the information you provide about the family members who are available for testing and help you determine which test best fits your situation.

Testing can be done either privately (via self-collection of DNA samples at home) or using a Chain of Custody procedure to make the test results usable in a legal situation. We will tell you the testing fee once we have complete information about your special situation.

Please visit the links below to learn more about our family relationship DNA tests.

Grandparentage Testing
We can test an alleged father’s biological parents (a child’s alleged grandparents) with a child to determine if the child is biologically related to the family.

Siblingship Testing
A siblingship test can help two individuals determine if they are full or half siblings. Usually, this test is used to indirectly determine paternity (i.e., to determine if the two children share a father).

Reconstruction Testing
Reconstruction testing compares the DNA profiles of an alleged father’s close relatives with the profile of a child. This form of testing is usually helpful when the alleged father cannot be tested and one or both of his parents are also unavailable for testing.

Maternity Testing
Maternity testing is commonly used to confirm the biological relationship between a mother and child who have been separated by circumstances such as adoption. Often, adoption records are sealed and only a DNA maternity test can provide the definitive answer the reunited mother and child are seeking.

Twin Zygosity Testing
Twin zygosity tests determine if twins are fraternal or identical. Results of a twin zygosity test not only provide information to satisfy curiosity; they also serve as an important piece of the twins’ medical history that may aid in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of disease later in life.

If you have questions about any of these tests, please call us at 1-800-DNA-8360 or use our online contact form.
