Prenatal Paternity Test

A prenatal paternity test will reveal if a tested man is the biological father of an unborn child. Testing can begin as early as the 10th week of pregnancy. From the time of conception, a child’s DNA remains the same throughout his or her life. Thus, we can test a prenatal sample (taken from the womb) together with samples from the mother and alleged father. The mother’s DNA sample is required in a prenatal test.

Prenatal samples are collected using one of two methods, depending on the mother’s stage of pregnancy.

Chorionic Villi Sampling (CVS)

Amniocentesis

Stage of pregnancy

10th through 13th week

14th through 24th week

Cells collected

Cells from the placenta, a membrane surrounding the developing fetus

Loose fetal cells released into the amniotic fluid surrounding the developing fetus

Collection procedure

Guided by ultrasound, an OB-GYN uses a catheter through the vagina or a long, hollow needle through the abdomen (depending on the position of the fetus) to collect cells.

Guided by ultrasound, an OB-GYN uses a long needle through the abdomen to collect fluid.

The following are features of our prenatal paternity test:

  • Accurate, Conclusive Results
We guarantee conclusive testing results—at least a 99.99% probability of paternity for inclusions and 0% probability for exclusions. For accuracy, we test with a minimum of 16 DNA markers and perform extended analysis of up to 25 markers when necessary. To ensure error-free results, all samples are independently tested twice, and results are compared to verify that they match.
  • Fast results—5 working days or less
We do not need to sacrifice quality for speed. We have the latest equipment and streamlined procedures to give you accurate results faster than other laboratories.
  • Accredited Laboratory
Our laboratory has the highest accreditations from the most respected institutions in the DNA paternity testing industry: the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and others.
  • Begin testing with as little as $100 deposit
The fee for a prenatal paternity test, in which a prenatal sample, alleged father, and mother are tested, is $420. This fee does not include OB-GYN fees for collecting prenatal samples, which are paid directly to the doctor. The OB-GYN often also collects the adults’ samples for no additional charge; otherwise we can schedule convenient and local appointments for an additional sample collection and coordination fee of $35 each.
  • OB-GYN Coordination Service
If the mother does not have an OB-GYN or if her OB-GYN is unable to perform the prenatal sample collection, we can coordinate OB-GYN referrals for an additional fee; please contact us for more information.
