Maternity Testing
Worldwide Genetics provides accurate maternity testing for individuals who need to verify the maternity of a child. Maternity testing is often used when a birth mother and child have been separated by adoption and are reunited years later. Other situations, such as accidental baby switching, can also be resolved using maternity testing.
In a maternity test, DNA samples from the alleged mother and child are analyzed and compared. When possible, the child’s father is also encouraged to contribute a DNA sample. The father’s participation aids in the DNA testing process.
By comparing the genetic profiles of the alleged mother and child, we can conclusively determine whether the two individuals are biologically related. People who are biologically related as mother and child will share a significant portion of DNA markers.
The results of a maternity test will clearly state whether or not the alleged mother is the biological mother of the child.
Like our paternity tests, our maternity tests can be taken either privately (allowing the tested parties to collect their own DNA samples) or by following the legal procedure (which observes the Chain of Custody process that makes the results legally defensible). If you need help choosing between these options, please consult with one of our customer service representatives. They are experienced with all our testing options and can help you choose the best option for your needs.
